WYSIWYG-based editor for Wikipedia (and similar other projects) with features (collaboration, etc.) similar to Google Docs and Microsoft Word will unleash a wave of public contribution, significantly larger than the current level.
I strongly believe that the current method to edit Wikipedia, using MediaWiki markup, is *very* daunting for the Average Joe. Editing a Wikipedia entry today is significantly more complicated compared to editing a Word document, for example.
The result, I believe, is that a large chunk of Wikipedia's users do not contribute to it, although they would have, had the editor been more Word-like.
